Lichens can withstand the extremely cold weather of about 195 degrees. Some lichens can only be found about 400 km from the South Pole. They don’t have a big population because of the lack of water. They can only grow on about 120 days per year and only 0.01s and 1 millimetre per year. They can live up to an age of 200 years; the record has been 4500 years.
